It should be noted that although the beam went through his armor and hurt him, it was useless against his force-field. In scan 2, Mandarin's disintegration beam (which is described in the Marvel Handbook Entry as "destroying all bonds between the atoms and molecules of the object it strikes") bounces off his shielding, but manages to hit Tony's shoulder. I won't claim that he has complete invulnerability to these types of attacks, but he does have resistance. The second, third, and fourth scan are all showings where Iron Man deals with atom/molecule busting attacks in inferior armor to the Bleeding-Edge armor. It's Lord Gouzar, a character who casually overpowered Captain America, beating on Tony's malfunctioning armor repeatedly with Cap's shield in an attempt to open it up, but to no avail. Later on, as Doctor Doom began to manipulate events, Thor was pitted directly against his friends, the US Government asked Tony to intervene and talk Thor down, so upon urging from Doom, Tony created a new suit empowered by that crystal that was powered by mystical energy and was even powerful enough to stop Mjolnir in its tracks. The first scan I threw in just to reinforce how durable his armor is in the Bleeding-Edge suit. Hilariously, Tony does make something similar in 616 when Thor is in possession of the Odinforce, its called "Model 22," it was powered by an Asgardian crystal that Thor gave to Tony in order to potentially be a truly clean energy source. The one from Marvel 8096 was forged by Eitri the Dwarf in Nidavellir, it was made to look like the Destroyer armor, and it was crafted from the same metal as Mjolnir. There are two notable versions of this suit, one in Earth 8096, and one in Earth 616. Thorbuster should be a good deal stronger, but Thorbuster is not a suit that Tony made on his own, he had a lot of help from a fairly large number of people.
